Paul Lambert has insisted that Manchester United were deserving winners of the Premier League title after they secured the championship with victory over his Aston Villa side on Monday.
A hat-trick from Robin van Persie earned the Red Devils a 3-0 win at Old Trafford, a result that opened up an unassailable 16-point gap over rivals Manchester City.
Lambert told reporters: "Manchester United have worked really hard for each other, they have a winning mentality and the best team always wins the league."
The defeat left Villa three points clear of the top-flight relegation zone.
