Donny van de Beek is reportedly expected to leave Manchester United in January, but a return to Ajax is currently off the table.

Manchester United have made plans to sell Donny van de Beek in January, according to a report.

The midfielder moved to Old Trafford from Ajax for a reported fee of £35m in August 2020, but he has struggled to secure a regular spot in the team.

Van de Beek has played just six minutes of Premier League football this season, with his only two starts coming against Young Boys in the Champions League and West Ham United in the EFL Cup.

According to Fabrizio Romano, there are "huge chances" that the 24-year-old will leave Manchester in January in an attempt to kickstart his career.

However, the journalist adds that a return to Ajax appears unlikely, with rumours about an Amsterdam homecoming currently considered "fake" by all parties.

Van de Beek scored 41 goals in 175 appearances for Ajax, winning the Eredivisie title in 2019, the same year the club reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.
