Preview: PSV Eindhoven vs. Feyenoord - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Eredivisie clash between PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Unbeaten in five league games, PSV Eindhoven welcome Feyenoord to the Philips Stadion on Sunday in a clash between two of Dutch football's biggest teams.

The visitors have a chance to complete a league double over their hosts, who they beat 3-1 in January's reverse fixture at De Kuip.

PSV went within six points of the top spot in the Eredivisie table courtesy of a 3-1 win over Fortuna Sittard on Sunday.

Eran Zahavi was the star of the occasion where he netted two first-half goals to put his side on course for all three points.

With the exception of Ajax and AZ Alkmaar, Roger Schmidt's men have picked up more points in the last five gameweeks than any other side as they go in search of a first league title since 2018.

The clash with Feyenoord promises to be a real test, but the Rood-witten will be buoyed by their home record this term, which is bettered by only Vitesse.

The hosts are eight points ahead of Sunday's opponents, who have won just one of their last seven visits to the Philips Stadion in all competitions.

After failing to win any of their three previous games, Feyenoord returned to winning ways in grand style with a 6-0 demolition of VVV-Venlo on Saturday.

Steven Berghuis was at the heart of things for Dick Advocaat's men as he supplied a goal and two assists in a man-of-the-match performance.

De Stadionclub remain in fifth place, but they extended their lead over sixth-placed Groningen to four points, while also remaining in hot pursuit of Vitesse and AZ Alkmaar.

Sunday's visitors have won just one away game since the turn of the year, and that has been a major Achilles' heel in their quest for glory.

However, as earlier mentioned, they have already beaten PSV once this season which should serve as a source of inspiration heading into the game.

Team News

Richard Ledezma and Maximiliano Romero have both had their seasons ended prematurely, picking up ACL and knee injuries respectively.

Cody Gakpo has not played in the last two months due to an ankle injury, and he is expected to remain out for another month at least.

Feyenoord's Joao Teixeira had been sidelined for the past six weeks with a calf injury, but he returned to action with a 14-minute cameo appearance last time out.

Bart Nieuwkoop suffered a thigh injury on the last day of February versus AZ and as a result, he is ruled out for Sunday's game.

PSV Eindhoven possible starting lineup:
Mvogo; Max, Boscagli, Teze, Dumfries; Rosario, Sangare, Thomas; Junior, Vertessen, Zahavi

Feyenoord possible starting lineup:
Marsman; Geertruida, Spajic, Senesi, Malacia; Toornstra, Fer, Diemers; Berghuis, Jorgensen, Linssen

We say: PSV Eindhoven 2-1 Feyenoord

Despite Feyenoord's big win last time out, it is PSV who will come into this one as the more in-form side, and we are backing them to narrowly claim all three points in what should be an entertaining clash.
