Marcelo: 'We failed to take advantage of slips in title race'

Real Madrid left-back Marcelo admits that Los Blancos missed a big opportunity to take advantage of slips from Atletico Madrid and Barcelona in La Liga this weekend.

Real Madrid left-back Marcelo has admitted that Los Blancos missed a big opportunity to take advantage of slips from Atletico Madrid and Barcelona in La Liga this weekend.

Madrid were held to a 2-2 draw by Valencia on Sunday evening, with the result leaving them five points behind Atletico, who lost 2-0 to Levante on Saturday.

Barcelona, who sit second, were also held to a 2-2 draw by Getafe on Saturday as all of the top three in La Liga dropped points at the weekend.

"La Liga is a very tough competition and everything can change at any moment. We had an opportunity to cut the gap, but we failed," he told GOL TV.

Madrid's game in hand over the top two is against Real Valladolid on Wednesday.
