Steve Clarke says that he was nervous as West Bromwich Albion tried to see out a 2-1 victory over Sunderland at The Hawthorns.

West Bromwich Albion boss Steve Clarke has admitted that his side made things difficult for themselves before seeing out victory over Sunderland.

The Baggies were 2-0 and cruising at The Hawthorns courtesy of two goals from Romelu Lukaku, but Stephane Sessegnon's 79th-minute strike kept things interesting until the final whistle.

Despite coming under pressure, Clarke said that he was pleased to record back-to-back wins following the 2-0 triumph at Anfield.

"I was a little bit nervous," he told BBC Sport. "We have to learn to manage the game a little better and see it out better than that.

"It didn't have to become a game of basketball, which it did in the last 15 minutes.

"It's nice to get back-to-back wins and give the supporters a nice Saturday evening."

West Brom are now seventh in the Premier League.
