West Brom captain Liam Ridgewell admits that it is a "massive ambition" of his to play for England and hasn't ruled out a call-up this season.

West Bromwich Albion defender Liam Ridgewell has admitted that it is a "massive ambition" of his to play for England.

The 27-year-old has represented his country and Under-19 and Under-21 level but has never received a call-up to the senior squad.

With former Baggies boss Roy Hodgson now at the helm for the Three Lions, Ridgewell believes that he could force a way into the side if he has a good season at the Hawthorns.

"It's a massive ambition in my life to play for England," he told the Sunday Mercury. "Wearing the Three Lions on the shirt is what every English footballer aspires to.

"I want a good and consistent season with West Brom first and foremost, but if I got a call from Roy Hodgson then I'd be very happy.

"You just never know what lies around the corner."

West Brom start the new Premier League season at home to Liverpool on Saturday, August 18.
