Ronny Deila: 'Tom Rogic has something special about him'

Celtic boss Ronny Deila admits that he had no idea who Tom Rogic was when he took over at Celtic, but believes the midfielder now has a bright future at the club.

Ronny Deila has hinted that Tom Rogic could play his way into Celtic's Champions League squad.

The 22-year-old marked his first Hoops start in almost two years by scoring his side's opener against Partick Thistle on Sunday afternoon.

Rogic, a £400,000 signing from Central Coast Mariners in 2013, has been overlooked ever since Celtic's defeat to Morton in the Scottish Cup the same year.

However, having made an impact against Inverness, Deila insists that the attacking midfielder could still play a key part at Celtic Park.

"Tom was very good for the first 40 minutes," he is quoted as saying by the Glasgow Evening Times. "You can see what kind of talent he is with his touch of the ball and awareness.

"He has a lot of things that he can give to the team and I think we will see much more of him. When I came here I hadn't heard anything about him, so I didn't know who he was.

"He was injured the whole time for almost a year last season but once we got him started again I saw that he had something special. I told him he would never leave this club before he gets a real chance and now he is showing that he deserves that chance."

Asked about Rogic's Champions League hopes, Deila added: "He was on the bench in Baku and yeah he has shown he is an option for our team."

Celtic find themselves top of the Scottish Premiership table after winning their opening two fixtures.
