Ronnie Whelan: 'Jose Mourinho's tactics were a disgrace'

Ronnie Whelan says that Chelsea's approach to beating Liverpool last week was an "utter disgrace".

Liverpool legend Ronnie Whelan has branded Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho an "utter disgrace" over the tactics used to beat the Reds last week.

The Blues won 2-0 with goals from Demba Ba and Willian, but were on the back foot for much of the game.

However, the Irishman was less concerned with the defending from Chelsea and criticised their players conduct throughout the Anfield clash.

He told the Daily Star: "The way Chelsea won a game of football last weekend was a complete and utter disgrace.

"Jose Mourinho used the phrase 'parking the bus'. I wouldn't mind if that was all they did. To defend well is perfectly acceptable.

"It is the rest of it that I have a problem with – the time-wasting, players falling over and staying down when there was nothing wrong with them, the constant practice of four or five Chelsea players surrounding the referee every time a decision went against them."

Chelsea can leapfrog Liverpool in the Premier League table with a win over Norwich City on Sunday.
