AZ go third with Go Ahead Eagles victory

Goals in either half from Simon Poulsen and Robert Muhren earn AZ a 2-0 win over Go Ahead Eagles which lifts them above Feyenoord to third in the Eredivisie table.

AZ climbed to third in the Eredivisie table courtesy of a comfortable 2-0 win over Go Ahead Eagles this evening.

Goals in either half from Simon Poulsen and Robert Muhren earned the Alkmaar outfit a fourth win in five games.

The visitors had, however, lost 4-2 to leaders PSV Eindhoven last weekend and were a bit slow out of the blocks.

Go Ahead had plenty of possession in the early stages, but were unable to apply any sustained pressure on the AZ goal and went one down when Poulsen struck on 34 minutes.

It was all one-way traffic from that moment on and AZ gave themselves a cushion as Dabney dos Santos supplied Muhren for a 58th-minute second.

The result sees AZ climb above Feyenoord in the table, while Go Ahead stay 15th and only five points above safety.
